Some people just take longer than others…
Coleman Training Development in Bradford provides supported internships to neurodivergent young people with the goal of securing sustainable, paid employment.
We’ve received news that a recent Supported Intern has successfully secured a full-time job with Bradford libraries!
👏 The library received 100 applications, and they interviewed 15 candidates, so this was a huge hurdle. Well done, *Ashley!
Ashley’s story began when we met 4 years ago. She was extremely anxious and insular, and her mother’s words explain it best:
“Well, where to start…
The young, frightened, 17-year-old that joined you 4 years ago is a far cry from this amazing young woman leaving you today!
As a Mum, to see your child go from hiding behind her hood, not giving eye contact, unable to sit in session for long, unable to answer a phone-call, use public transport or advocate for herself, to see her now thriving, happy, smiling, loving her library job and even dressing up as a bear!!! and more than anything, actually seeing a fulfilling future for her is just a gift.”
This shows how neurodivergence is not “one size fits all,” and that some people take longer to reach their destination than others.
How many driving lessons did it take before you passed your test? Some learners need a handful of sessions, and some learners need many, but the end goals are still the same!
Everyone progresses at different speeds.
*Ashley's name has been changed.
